American dream of a lakeside cottage
LA-based architects, Bruce Norelius Studio, has remodeled a late 1800s lakeside cottage in Knox County, Maine, US. Native Americans referred to this area as 'Megunticook' meaning ‘great swells of the sea’, a reference to the silhouette of the Camden Hills and the breathtaking nature surrounding this summer cottage.
Bruce Norelius, architect
'We were asked to repurpose a small 19th century summer cottage. Vipp was the clear choice for kitchen and bath fixtures; its reductionist design character a contemporary reinterpretation of the elegant frugality of the original building.'
East-coast cottage revived
For over a century. the cottage was enjoyed three seasons out of the year, but to maintain this pattern of use the new owner hired Bruce Norelius Studio to breathe new life into the old construction. The building was stripped to its essence, and newly added surfaces and fixtures stand distinct from the original structure.
